History
and future of dry stack marinas
Dry stack boat storage has been a popular feature of many marinas
for over thirty years, especially in the east coast and northeast
regions of the country. Long ago, boaters realized their boats
would be safer from hurricane damage and intense sun (east coast)
and freezing weather (northeast) if they were stored inside a
building rather than moored in the water or left outside on trailers.
Growing awareness of the overwhelming benefits of dry storage
as well as regulatory and market factors will continue to increase
demand for dry storage. New marina developments are difficult
to permit and many older marinas are being retrofitted to handle
larger vessels while eliminating their shorter slips. In short,
the demand for boat moorage, especially in the under 40 feet category,
is increasing faster than the supply of new facilities designed
to handle these boats. Twin Bridges Marina was designed specifically
to meet the requirements of this profile of boater.
